Why did God allow the devil to remain alive after being banished from heaven?
Why did God allow the devil to remain alive after being banished from heaven?
Mahalo (Thank you in Hawaiian) for asking this question. The short answer is that God wanted us to have a choice. God is perfect. He is, was, and always will be perfect. Humans were perfect until they sinned against God, because God gave us free will to choose. If God made us without the right to choose, then we would be like any inanimate object. Like a robot made to do the bidding of its master. To have perfection, there has to be a choice involved. God allowed the devil to remain alive after being banished from heaven to give us a choice.
Example: I am probably not alone in wondering what it would be like if the devil were not around to tempt me into doing what I do not want to do (Romans 7). Then I realized that every time things are going great in my life, I grow farther away from God’s plan for me. I am not saying I grow farther from God because I know that I know I am a child of God. However, I easily stray from the things God wants me to do and replace them with the things I want to do. I forget that the more I focus on Jesus, the more the things God wants for me and what I want for me are the same. I need to make the right choices, and I need to establish and maintain a good relationship with Jesus.
