Mahalo (thanks in Hawaiian) for asking this question. The short answer is no. However, there will be animals in heaven. So, we really do not know if your particular pet will be one of them. I know that love for pets is real and can be heartbreaking when we lose them. When we go to heaven, our hearts will be so filled with God’s love that we will not feel the pain of loss. The Bible clearly indicates that there will be no sorrow or tears in heaven, so again, we will not feel the loss. God always makes bad things turn out good.
Just in case your heaven is really the other place, there will not be pets or animals there. You will be so occupied with pain and agony that you will not be thinking about the loss of your pet. If you are ready to learn how NOT to go to this place, ask!
Now, do pets or animals have souls? The answer depends on your definition of soul. If your definition of soul is only an entity’s personal identity and personality, then the answer is yes. However, if you are referring to a human person’s Breath of God, the answer is no. God made all the birds and fish on the fifth day of creation. All the animals God created on the sixth day. There was no mention of God giving them anything other than life. On the sixth day, God created man out of the dust of the earth, and not only did He give life, but He also breathed a soul into man. Therefore, the definition of the soul is the “breath of God,” along with the identity and personality.
“Remember, if you don’t understand, ask!”
