What is the relationship between Easter and the Passover?
What is the relationship between Easter and the Passover?
There is a direct relationship between Easter and the Passover. The first Passover is when the Israelites were told to shed the life (Blood) of a lamb without blemish and sprinkle its blood on the top and side posts of the main door frame to their home (Exodus 12:1-14). This signified the cleansing of their home. When the angel of death came by, it would pass over the homes that had the blood of the lamb. Easter is about the resurrection of the Lamb without blemish, Jesus Christ, who died and shed His life (blood) for all of us. When the rapture comes, Jesus will gather all those who have been cleansed by the Blood of the Lamb. We are cleansed by the Blood of Jesus when we confess that Jesus is our Lord and God raised Jesus from the dead Romans 10:9-10.
God’s plan of Salvation was, is, and will be about the giving of life, which is in the blood. Before Christ, God’s people would sacrifice lambs for the covering and forgiveness of their sins. When Jesus came, He was sacrificed for the forgiveness of all our sins permanently. No longer a covering, but removed completely, Hebrews 9:22, 1 John 1:9.
Romans 10:9-10, If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
Hebrews 9:22, In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
1 John 1:9, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Romans 5:9, Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!
Exodus 12:1-14, The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, 2“This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year. 3Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month, each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household. 4If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat. 5The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. 6Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. 7Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. 8That same night, they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast. 9Do not eat the meat raw or boiled in water, but roast it over a fire—with the head, legs and internal organs. 10Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it. 11This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the Lord’s Passover.
12“On that same night, I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. 13The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.
14“This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance.
